Questions & Answers

Below are some questions that we have been asked by parents. The questions are in black and the responses are in blue. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to click here! Thanks

General:

How do you handle it if one of the care providers calls in sick? Who helps care for the children?
We have our own trained substitutes, and we also are a part of an organization
called The Center of Early Education which provides amazing substitutes that
have under gone hours of training.

Do any of the teachers/care providers smoke?
We have a very strict no smoking policy on the campus, and we do not
allow them to have the scent of smoke on their clothes.

Infants:

If a baby has congestion (stuffy nose or cough), will the care providers irrigate and aspirate the baby's nose during the day?
We will be happy to do this at your request as long as the irrigator that you bring has a ridge that will ensure that it will not go too far up the child's nose.

If a baby has medicine that is needed, will the care provider give it to the baby (w/in guidelines/reason)?
We have a form that must be filled out by the parents daily. As long as
that is filled out and signed accordingly, we will administer medicine.

If a baby has special needs, such as a massage requirement after feeding, elevated sleeping position, etc., will Victory Learning Center be able to accommodate that need?
We are more than happy to assist with a child's special needs as long as it
doesn't take away from the care of the other children. If there is a massage
requirement, we would need your help training the teachers on how to do that
correctly. If the child needed to sleep elevated, we would ask that you bring
the appropriate device to keep in the child's bed.

Are the baby wipes (that parents bring in) shared among all babies (i.e. if a baby has sensitive skin and their parent brings in sensitive skin wipes, will the care provider use any wipe available or the wipes brought in for that particular baby)?
Each child has its own cubby right beside the changing table for their own individual supplies. We do not share wipes.

How much time does the care provider spend with the children outside of feeding? Are the babies encouraged to play in some way, or are they encouraged to go to sleep (like in a swing or crib)?
Our teachers love their jobs! They are spending the entire day playing on
the floor with children and reading books with two children in their laps.
Every child has a full day of singing, playing, tummy time, lap time, bouncy seat,
eating, sleeping and looking at books with our teachers.

Toddlers:

What type of schedule do you suggest that I do at home to prepare my child to start coming to your preschool?  You can click here to see the daily schedule for the toddler rooms. If you are trying to prepare your child, the best ways to do that are with their eating and sleeping routines. Check out the daily schedule and start to adjust your days as best as possible to have lunch at 11:00 and nap from 12:00 to 2:00.

Preschoolers:

How can I stay informed about my child's progress? Great Question! Our preschool teachers connect with the parents through email. They send a weekly lesson plan out, and once a month they send out a newsletter.

What type of curriculum do you use? When it comes to curriculum to prepare children for kindergarten, there are two schools of thought: workbook curriculum style and the “teach what they are interested in” style. Both have their advantages; it is very good to be able to track a child’s progress, and it is also just as good to teach a child anything and everything that they are interested in while instilling the love of learning. At VLC we strive to do both styles effectively.
